1969 – It All Begins with a Need

In the heart of North Karelia’s rugged wilderness - where silence speaks and nature sets the rules - a young hunter made a choice. When the market offered nothing that could endure the real conditions of the wild, Urpo Saastamoinen sewed his own suit.
What was born was more than just a garment — it was an attitude. Sasta was born.

The 1970s – From Forest to Trail

Finnish nature is unforgiving - but it rewards those who know how to listen. Sasta’s garments emerged in rhythm with the land: wool, cotton, wax, and a spirit that refused to give in. Clothing for children and adults who lived every day of the year outdoors.
In Nurmes, three separate buildings pulsed with the same heartbeat: protection, comfort, and durability.

The 1980s – Growth and Great Demands

Sasta moved into its own factory — but stayed true to what mattered: gear that works. Hunting suits, taped seams, waterproof materials. The tracksuit boom in Finland wasn’t just a fashion trend — it was a way of life, and Sasta stood at its core. At its peak, over one hundred people shared one mission: to craft garments that never let you down - even in the harshest conditions.

The 1990s – On the Cutting Edge of Technology

Sasta was among the first in Finland to bring in Gore-Tex® technology. Clothing was no longer just protection — it became precision, innovation, and movement. The iconic Wolf suit was born and became a part of history. Back then, responsibility already meant focusing on quality. Sasta received a prestigious export award — but the true reward was the trust earned in the field. By this time, the name Sasta had become more than a brand - it had become an institution.

The 2000s – Deep Roots, Eyes on the Horizon

Times changed — but the core of Sasta did not. We continued crafting garments that could endure time, weather, and wear. Our products are tested where they belong — in collaboration with those who truly live outdoors. For us, sustainability isn’t a buzzword - it’s a design principle. Timeless design, long lifespan, European production. And the quality? Still watched over from the place where it all began - Nurmes.

Today – The Story Lives On in Every Step

Sasta is not just a garment. It’s a choice. A way of life that refuses to compromise.

It’s the wind howling across a fell, the scent of smoke from a campfire and the step that carries you forward - whatever the weather.

And whenyou’re out there, you’ll feel it.

That’s Sasta.
